Varicose Vein TreatmentBronx, NY

If you dislike the appearance of veins on your legs or the pain that results from varicose veins, then we can help. While noticeable, painful, or swollen veins on the legs are part of the aging process, we can help to reduce the appearance and discomfort. Varicose vein treatment involves using vein ablation to reduce the appearance of varicose veins on the legs and decrease pain from enlarged veins.

Varicose vein treatment is available at KezMed Medical PC in Bronx and the surrounding area. Patients with varicose veins often get them on their legs. The veins develop when blood vessel valves and the blood flow malfunction, causing them to appear larger, bluer, twisted, and bulging. Vein ablation can help to provide the change in appearance and relief you are looking for.

Benefits of Vein Ablation

According to the Society for Vascular Surgery, varicose veins affect approximately 35% of people in the country. Our office offers non-surgical vein ablation to treat varicose veins. Vein ablation is a minimally invasive procedure that relies on radiofrequency or lasers to cauterize malfunctioning veins.

Vein ablation is a non-surgical treatment option for patients who want a quick procedure without much downtime. The procedure will take around an hour. Another benefit of vein ablation is that patients are typically able to return to their routine without discomfort or issue.

The Treatment Process

At our office, Dr. Kezerashvili, MD FACC performs vein ablation as an outpatient procedure. There is no need for a hospital or operating room. Before the day of the procedure, the doctor will go over instructions, so you know what to expect.

  1. Preparation: For most patients, there is no special preparation before the procedure. Some patients may need to stop taking certain medications, such as blood thinners, at some point before the treatment. Patients may also receive instructions to bring special compression stockings to wear after the procedure is over. It’s best to wear loose, comfortable clothing for the treatment.
  2. Process: During the procedure, the doctor will use an ultrasound machine to guide the device and get the best view of the patient’s veins. Our providers will clean the legs, shave them if necessary, and sterilize the area. We use a surgical drape over the treatment area. The patient gets a pair of protective eyewear before the treatment begins.
  3. Laser Treatment: The doctor may use a local numbing agent in the area for treatment. Our team makes a small incision into the leg and inserts a catheter. Using the catheter, the team applies laser energy to the vein to help repair the malfunctioning valve.
  4. Recovery: After treatment ends, patients should wear compression stockings for about two weeks. It’s important to walk at least 20 minutes a day to help speed up the recovery process. Patients may experience some discomfort, bruising, and swelling.

Varicose Vein Treatment FAQ

What causes the need for varicose vein treatment?

Varicose veins are somewhat common. Obesity, pregnancy, menopause, family history, and being over 50 are risk factors for problems with veins. Standing for extended periods may also increase the risk of varicose veins.

What are the signs of varicose veins?

Patients needing varicose vein treatment notice large, visible veins on their legs. There may be some pain or swelling near the veins. Discoloration sometimes occurs as well with varicose veins.

How much is varicose vein treatment?

Talk to your insurance provider to see about coverage for treatment. Before the procedure, your doctor will go over any costs. Many insurance providers cover medically necessary vein treatment when varicose veins cause other issues, such as swelling or ulcers.

How do I prevent varicose veins?

Specific lifestyle changes can help to prevent varicose veins from getting worse. Regular exercise, a low-salt diet, a healthy weight, and compression stockings may reduce problems from varicose veins. Comfortable shoes and moisturizing also help with vein problems.

Does varicose vein treatment hurt?

During the procedure, patients may get a local numbing agent. Afterward, there may be minor discomfort during healing. Over-the-counter pain medication helps with the soreness.

When do I see results?

Immediately after vein ablation, patients may not see a change in the veins. The veins may change from blue to light red a few days after varicose vein treatment. After a few weeks, they may disappear altogether.
